THE CANVAS OF THE HEART
There's a time once upon it in a little village somewhere among the beautiful green hills, that was a home for a young girl named Maya. Maya was blind when she was born, but her heart was filled with gleaming light and her soul was warm with hope.
Although Maya was handicapped, she was deliberate to make the most of the life. Every day would start with a smile on her face as if she had a bag full of sunshine and she was ready to cope with the day's challenges. She had a special gift, seeing through other senses. The rustle of leaves in the wind, the sun warmth and the fragrance of the flower that was in the village garden smell could be felt and heard by Maya.
The day arrived, a name that everyone knows as an artist came to the village. Even though Encarnación will not have had any previous knowledge of art, he still offered to teach her how to paint. Maya didn’t hesitate for a second and decided to do it with her sense of touch to feel the textures of the canvas and her intuition on which colors to choose perfect.
With passage of time Maya's talent grew from days to weeks, and from weeks to months. Yet, whereas sighted artists struggled to paint images in the same way, her paintings were the perfect outlet to visualize the beauty of the world. The people from other neighboring villages would walk to view her work, and they would be awed at the depth and the use of each brushstroke.
As much as Maya's voyage was not free of hindrances. Many of the villagers doubted whether Deafblind Helen could paint so well. They wondered how a blind girl could create such great paintings. And yet, Maya hung on, her critics’ ridicule helping to keep her driven
Later Maya's paintings discovered by one of prestigous art Galleries in the city. They granted her a solo exhibition where she would have the chance to exhibit her paintings. To Maya, it was her dream, and so the chance to let share her perceptions was a dream come true.
The night of exhibition finally came, and the gallery where Maya’s work would be viewed was packed with people. Observing the paintings through their eyes, they were touched by her art`s profoundness and charm. Maya was in the middle of the space with a joyful heart for the gift she had been bestowed.
After all, Maya had the revelation that real —either by the eyes or the heart—sight is what makes one fully understand the point. By means of her art, she had proved that you needn't search for it in places that are familiar and thought to be beautiful since beauty exists in the most unusual places. It could be a disguise for an obstacle, but it would also show your way to get past it.
From then, Maya’s story brought hope to all who heard it, a proof that, in the face of adversity, a positive attitude and determination are crucial ingredients, and the end result can be more colourful than ever.
MORAL:The message of the poem "The Canvas of the Heart" is that vision and creativity are true regardless of the limitations of oneself. This is what we learn when we overcome obstacles – our determination, our positivity and the ability to see the world in a different perspective. An interesting part of Maya\'s story is, that beauty is everywhere though not in a conventional way. And if one faces a trouble, it may yield a good thing but only if with patience, strength, and an open heart.
